Boho Records gets storefront
A new vinyl store can now be found on Railroad Avenue with more than 8,000 records on display. Boho Records and Rags has been for business since May 2018, and is home to records ranging from Elvis to the Beatles to Fleetwood Mac to Guns N’ Roses, said store owner Steven Beeby. Santa Clarita record enthusiasts will have plenty to add to their collection, but also have the option of selling their own records to the store. If interested customers set up an appointment, the Beeby brothers will consider buying from them. “We take original presses,” Beeby said. “We try to keep all our racks as full as possible, and about 99 percent of these are the originals. And we have thousands more records in storage,” he said, gesturing around the store. Beeby’s brother, Anthony, was a DJ in Hollywood for many years throughout the 1980s and 1990s, after the Beeby family moved from England to Thousand Oaks in 1979. As a DJ, Anthony Beeby played many records for artists as a resident DJ and ended up amassing a huge record collection. The Beebys sold records to finance Anthony’s wedding in 2004 and made a profit of $38,000, Steven Beeby said. From there, the Beeby brothers began running their business on eBay until they had the idea to rent a physical space in which collectors could gather. “We sold online, and at private shows in Pasadena and Buena Park for many years,” Steven Beeby said. “We acquired lots of inventory, so we figured we should try another outlet.” Records are not the only things for sale at Boho Vinyl Records and Rags. The store has music related memorabilia such as the Fleetwood Mac sign from the band’s party at Warner Brothers in the 1970s when their album “Rumours” hit No. 1. Other artist memorabilia includes original artwork from the “Arc of a Diver” album by Steve Winwood. The Beebys also sell imported clothing from Thailand and India. But the main thing they have a love for is selling those records. “If you’re not listening to records, you’re missing out,” he said. “The quality of the music is far superior on vinyl. You can hear every word and every note. Streamed music is nowhere near as good.” The store is located at 24827 Railroad Ave. in Newhall and open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They can be found on Facebook, Instagram and Yelp and their website, temporarily under construction, is bohorecordsandrags.com. Customers can reach them at (661) 388-4066. WE INVITE YOU TO COME BY SOON TO SAY "HI"
If you are in the area why don't you stop by just to say "Hi" and simply look around or have a nice chat.
WINNETKA, CA –
Boho Records and Rags located in Newhall, California has struggled with the purchase of new records from their customers since the pandemic hit over a year ago.
With over 8,000 records on display, Boho Records opened its doors back in 2018.
The music retailer is Co-run by the Beeby brothers, Anthony and Steven.
While speaking with Anthony he talked a bit about how far the store has come since it opened almost three years ago.
“I think we’ve outdone ourselves, you know I think we have done better than I originally thought in such a short period of time,” says Anthony.
However, the COVID-19 pandemic has affected Boho Records at-home appointment system used to purchase records from customers.
A business method that originally included advertisements in a free community periodical called the Pennysaver, has now gone down two-thirds since the pandemic hit.
“Majority of the people you’re (we’re) going to are in their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s even and those people are a little nervous about the situation with COVID,” Anthony expressed.
When asked about COVID guidelines, Anthony says the transition was “seamless.”

Born and raised in the United Kingdom, brothers Anthony and Steve Beeby have owned and operated their old-fashioned record store, Boho Records and Rags, in Newhall for around three years. The storefront offers a wide variety of records, CDs, cassettes, music memorabilia and even Boho-style clothing and jewelry pieces sold by Steve’s wife, Ingrid.
Before opening Boho Records and Rags, Anthony held a wide range of positions across various fields of work after moving to California in 1979.
“I was the resident DJ at a place called the Crush Bar for 14 and a half years,” Anthony said. “Pretty much from the inception of the club after about the first month, I went in with the DJ who started it, and I was there ever since. I basically became the resident DJ. I also did a lot of record industry and movie industry rap parties and that type of thing, but mostly club work. I was also in construction. But the whole time, I was always a record collector. I’ve been collecting records my whole life, since I was a child, a small kid. I would always purchase records. In the late 70s [and] early 80s, I would ship records to the U.K., certain 45’s, rare items that people were looking for in the U.K., and I’ve just massed all these records… My brother and I were selling stuff online in the early days of Ebay. We carried on doing that up until three years ago.”
The Beebys decided to open the record shop as a way to sell some of the thousands of records they had kept in storage units. They opened the store in Newhall off of Railroad Avenue, mostly because of the cost in comparison to other areas throughout the Santa Clarita Valley.
“I like this area because it’s kind of the center of town,” Anthony said. “It’s like the center of everything, of [the] Santa Clarita Valley. And everybody kind of knows this area because of Main Street and stuff, so it’s a natural fit for us.”
Boho Records and Rags buys and sells nearly every genre you can think of, from rock to soul to punk to classical, and everything in between. “We like to have a little bit of everything,” Beeby said.
The storefront also provides two listening stations so you can ensure your records are of good quality before purchasing. But since the onset of COVID-19, Boho Records and Rags has faced many of the ups and downs that all businesses have had to deal with.
“Obviously [it impacted us] a lot, because we ended up closing for almost 12 weeks. When we reopened, it was tough, I’ll be honest with you. We were really busy like the first few weeks we were open, then we closed for one day for July 4 weekend. We opened on the fifth and we were dead. And we were dead right up until two weeks before Christmas,” Anthony said. “I honestly believe it had something to do with the stimulus. When we reopened after the 12 weeks, I think people needed to get out and get some normality, plus they had a few dollars in their pocket from the stimulus, and they spent money. As soon as it ended, we died again. And I think when they started talking about releasing more money for stimulus a couple weeks before Christmas, bang! We were hit again. We were really busy. And, touch wood, it’s been busy ever since. We haven’t stopped down since Christmas, it’s been terrific.”
The best part about operating a record store for the Beeby family is meeting the various customers that come in to shop. “All the years I was a DJ and working with the public and stuff like that, you know, if you don’t like people you’re not going to do it. And I like people,” Anthony said. “I don’t like everybody, but I do like people. You meet some interesting people, you really do.”
Boho Records and Rags is always looking to buy records from those wanting to get rid of part of or all of their collection, in any record sizes or genres. You can call to make an appointment and learn more about their COVID-19 procedures for buying records on their website, bohorecordsandrags.com.

45 - 33 - 78 RPM VINYL RECORDS, CASSETTES, 12" SINGLES, CD'S & MEMORABILIA FOR THE RECORD STORE.
We understand that your vinyl collection is precious, whether it was your own built up over the years or a loved one's that you have inherited. We try to make the process as easy as possible for you.
It’s great if you have a full list and can email it through to us, but we understand this isn’t always practical and can be very time consuming. We have 5 key questions that we ask to determine the next possible steps. These are as follows:
1) How many records do you have? (Doesn’t have to be exact just an approximation).
2) Are they LP’s, 45's, 78's or a mixture of all three?
3) Some examples of the artists that you have.
4) An idea about the general condition of the records (Covers/sleeves & vinyl)
5) Where you are located.
Once we understand the type of collection you have we either:
a) Request to make an appointment at a time suitable to you to view your records.
b) Offer some advice or contacts on the best way to sell the records.
When we come out to view the records it can be done at your house, place of work or wherever the records are located. We must inspect the records and determine an offering price for them. We will fully explain how we have reached that price and why we feel it is a fair and competitive price for the collection.
Once a price is agreed upon we will pay cash and take the records away to find new homes for them.
So please feel free get in touch to make an appointment
Here at Boho Vinyl Records and Rags, we are gearing up to get back on the road to help you sell your vinyl records safely during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that regulations permit , we would love to come to you and buy your records. We understand these are worrying times and want to let you know that your safety is our priority. We will sanitize our hands in front of you before entering your property.
Wear face masks and surgical protective gloves when on your property.
Observe recommended 6 feet distance when viewing your record collection.
If you are not comfortable allowing us onto your property (which is understandable) we are happy to view the records in a garage, from the trunk of your car, on your driveway or out in the street. Lastly, we are more than happy for you to bring the records to our store in Santa Clarita, CA.
Your safety is our priority, but we are still very keen to buy your vinyl record collection. We are also happy to report that at the time of this writing (Summer 2020) the market for vinyl records is still very buoyant which means we can still pay top prices for your collection.
